India made it two wins in two games when Harmanpreet Singh’s side defeated Pakistan in the Women’s World Cup in Colombo. After setting Pakistan a target of 248, India restricted them to 159. The pick of the bowlers in India’s 88-run win was Kranti Gaud with 3/20. Earlier, India posted 247 and the top-scorer was Harleen Deol with 46. India are now at the top of the points table.
The match itself was not short of controversy. There was confusion over who won the toss and then no handshakes between the skippers. Eventually, it was India that triumphed and continued their domination over the rivals. In fact, it was the fourth time the two sides met in a span of three weeks and be it men or women, it was India who triumphed over Pakistan. It’s India 4 Pakistan 0 as of now.

India have never won the Women’s World Cup. They lost the final in 2005 and 2017. Can they go the distance this time? Tough games are up ahead. The next match is vs South Africa on October 9. The really difficult matches come after that as they play Australia, England and New Zealand in consecutive matches after that. The aim is to finish in the top four and book a place in the semis.
The odds of India facing Pakistan again in the Women’s World Cup is bleak. They will either meet in the semis or in the final. As of now, India have a 12-0 record vs Pakistan in ODIs. In the World Cup alone, it’s India 5 Pakistan 0. No matter what the gender, India are dominating Pakistan with no stone unturned. It’s been a one-sided contest so far. Can India go the distance in the Women’s World Cup? It’s not impossible but they do face an uphill battle. Time will tell if they are becoming World Champions for the first time.
