Cloud seeding trials were conducted in several areas of Delhi on Tuesday (October 28). Artificial rain is expected to begin shortly. According to reports, a second trial may be conducted later today if the weather permits.
The aircraft has returned to Meerut after its trials. The aircraft took off from Kanpur this morning. Cloud seeding was conducted in North Delhi and Outer Delhi on Tuesday.
Trial conducted in these areasRegarding this trial, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said that a cloud seeding trial took place today. It was conducted using a Cessna plane. The plane flew from Meerut to Delhi. Cloud seeding took place in Khekra, Burari, Mayur Vihar, and several other areas.
The third trial will also take place today.He said that eight flares were used, and the entire process lasted about half an hour. The second and third trials will also be conducted today. Rain could occur anywhere from 15 minutes to four hours. This kind of shortness of breath will continue for the next several days.
Experiments were conducted in these cities before Delhi.It's worth noting that this technique has been used for the first time in Delhi. Previously, cloud seeding has been used in cities like Mumbai, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. Experts believe that this artificial rain will help settle dust, smoke, and harmful particles in the air, improving the AQI. Currently, Delhi's air quality has reached the "severe" category. According to Environment Department officials, if this experiment is successful, it could be repeated in the coming weeks.
The help of scientists from IIT Kanpur is being takenScientists from IIT Kanpur are also being involved in the cloud seeding project. IIT Kanpur has previously worked on this technology and its scientists are providing technical advice to the Delhi government. The government hopes that this initiative will not only clean Delhi's air but also provide some relief to citizens from pollution. This step is being considered an important step towards making the capital clean and breathable.
