Royal staff 'make clear change' after Prince William takes charge from King Charles

Royal staff have "become accustomed" to making one change with regards their behaviour around Prince William compared to how they behaved around King Charles.

The heir to the throne has admitted "change" is on his "agenda" when he takes the throne, with insiders suggesting he is in favour of a slimmed down monarchy.

This speculation has only intensified after William told Hollywood actor Eugene Levy that he would be making alterations. Whilst filming Eugene’s ‘The Reluctant Traveller’ show, he addressed the future of the monarchy.

He said: “I think it's safe to say that change is on my agenda. Change for good, and I embrace that and I enjoy that change.

“I don't fear it, that's the bit that excites me - the idea of being able to bring some change. Not overly radical change, but changes that I think need to happen.”

As to what those changes are no-one knows for sure, but in the present day William has been making alterations to his own royal circle. This has included adjusting the uniforms of royal staff.

Writing in the Telegraph, royal expert Melissa Twigg has said reported that staff at the Duchy of Cornwall “have become accustomed to not donning ties when William visits, having previously always done so for Charles”.

Speaking to the publication about William’s future monarchy, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine Ingrid Seward suggested that the heir to the throne may try and do away with some of the more glittery outfits that form part of the Royal Family’s pomp.

She said: “I think William finds some of the pomp and circumstance, and particularly some of the more elaborate outfits, slightly embarrassing and is likely to be relieved to be able to tone it down.”

Meanwhile, in a Channel 5 documentary titled ‘William and The King: Like Father, Like Son’, other experts have weighed in on father-of-three William’s ascension to the throne.

Vanity Fair’s Kate Nicholl highlighted how aides felt William was already ready should his time come sooner rather than later. She said: “I asked an aide if William is ready should his time as King come sooner than expected. Their response was immediate. This person has known William for decades and said, 'He's absolutely ready'.”

As part of William’s preparation for becoming King, he has been taken on more duties that would be undertaken by a monarch, or at least those which involve Britain sending a senior representative, including attending the late Pope Francis’ funeral and meeting President Donald Trump earlier this year.

On this meeting, Katie Nicholl added: “[Charles] wouldn't have William handling these important meetings, with Trump, Macron, or other world leaders, if Charles didn't believe he was absolutely capable. William has proven himself to be a very capable international statesman.”
