A plane travelling from Copenhagen to Manchester was forced to make an emergency landing at Newcastle Airport after a medical emergency. EasyJet's flight EZY2238, which departed the Danish capital at around 10pm local time on October 27, was scheduled to arrive in Manchester at 10.45pm UK time. Before reaching its destination, however, the plane was forced to make an unscheduled stop in Newcastle when a passenger was left "requiring urgent medical attention".
Medics were on-hand when the jet touched down in Newcastle, according to reports, and after the passenger in question was handed over to emergency services, the flight resumed its journey. A spokesperson for the budget airline said: "Flight EZY2238 from Copenhagen to Manchester on October 27 diverted to Newcastle, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention."
"The customer was met by medical services on arrival, and the flight continued to Manchester," they continued.
"The safety and wellbeing of our customers is always easyJet's highest priority."
While relatively rare, emergency landings are not uncommon for airlines operating in the UK, with another easyJet flight forced to make an unscheduled stop just last month in response to a "disruptive" passenger.
The plane, travelling from Manchester to Corfu, stopped in Milan where videos showed a man being "dragged off" the plane after alleged "disorderly conduct".
Two men on a Ryanair flight between Milan and London also forced their plane to make a sudden descent into Paris in late September after reportedly eating their passports.
"Suddenly, the whole mood changed," one anonymous source told the Daily Star. "No one on board knew what was going on. These people were acting weird."
Passengers also described the ordeal as "very strange" and "the most terrifying 15 minutes of my life", with French authorities eventually boarding the aircraft and making arrests before allowing the journey to continue as scheduled.
